A farmer discovered a pot of gold in his field. He buried it in his garden. He warned his wife not to tell anyone. But the wife had a bad habit of blurting everything out. So, the farmer had an idea. At night, he took some bread and put it on a tree. The wife was surprised to see the bread the next day. The farmer told her, “This tree gives bread every fifth year.” The wife was convinced and did not say anything. After a few days, the king’s men came to the farmer’s house looking for the pot of gold. They said that his wife had told someone about it. The farmer said, “Do not believe every word she says.” The wife interrupted and said, “I am not lying, for we got the pot a day before the tree bore bread.” The soldiers realised that the wife had indeed lied and went away.
