A deer had to cross a river. Now, he had no idea how to cross it. He thought hard and hit upon a plan. He decided to use the crocodiles. He called out to the king of the crocodiles, “Sir! The king has asked me to count the number of crocodiles in this river. Please line up all the crocodiles so that I may count them one by one.” The king crocodile said, “Of course!” Soon, all the crocodiles were lined up from one side of the river to the other for the counting. The clever deer quickly jumped on one crocodile, stepped on the other and was soon across the river. The crocodile cried out, “How many of us are there?” The deer laughed and replied, “Just enough for me to cross the river.” The king crocodile was left puzzling over the answer.
