Candy Cane Corn Snake

Candy-Cane-Corn-Snake

Common name : Eastern corn snake,

Corn snake, Chicken snake, Red rat snake

Scientific name : Pantherophis guttatus

Family : Colubridae

Native to : Eastern and South-Eastern United States

Interesting fact : Corn snakes feed on mice and rats that feed on harvested corn in grain stores and hence their name.

Conservation status : Least Concern

These orange-coloured corn snakes have red blotches and sport black-and-white checkered bellies. The candy cane, however, is white with red marks like a candy cane as it lacks the gene for the orange colour. They constrict their prey and feed. Due to their docile nature and attractive patterns, they make good pets.
