Cane Toad

Cane-Toad

Common name : Marine toad, giant neotropical toad

Scientific name : Rhinella marina

Family : Bufonidae

Native to : Central and South America

Interesting fact : They were introduced in the Pacific and Carribean islands to eradicate the sugarcane pest, cane beetle, but they ended up becoming a pest species themselves!

Conservation status : Least Concern

This huge frog with a dry and warty skin also has a voracious appetite and is toxic owing to its poison glands behind its eyes. So, it has few enemies. They’ll eat anything that can fit into their mouths and even feed on dead matter. They like to steal dog food off their bowls and eat bees straight from their hives.
