Vibheeshana Meets Rama

Vibheeshana bowed to Rama and explained that he had been unable to bring his brother onto the righteous path, so he had left him. He sought shelter with Rama. The monkey-soldiers, including Sugreeva, Angad and even Jambavan, were suspicious about Vibheeshana’s sincerity. They felt he might be a spy. When Rama asked Hanuman’s opinion, Hanuman said Rama already knew everything.
Rama smiled. He did not see any conspiracy in Vibheeshana’s words. Rama observed thus, “It is righteous conduct to welcome the one who seeks refuge in you. Please accept Vibheeshana.” He made Vibheeshana sit respectfully.

Vibheeshana felt blessed. Rama had accepted him despite the fact that he was Ravana’s brother. Soon, Vibheeshana became a trusted confidant of Rama’s army. Even before winning over Ravana, Rama made him king of Lanka. Rama always addressed him as ‘king’.
