The Natural v/s the Artificial (Brilliant Biology Experiments)

You will need:

  1. Sugar
  2. Sugar-free powder/pill like Splenda or Equal
  3. Fresh orange juice
  4. Orange juice from a concentrate or pack
  5. Regular Cola
  6. Diet Cola
  7. Pen & paper
  8. Blindfold
  9. Volunteers

Conduct this experiment and understand whether artificial sweeteners do more harm than good to the body.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take a small sample of the sweet items you
would want to sample on your friends. Divide your samples into categories, namely sugar, juice and Cola.
  2. Blindfold the person who you will experiment on. Next, ask him to taste the different items in pairs. Tell him the category he is about to taste but not whether the item is sugar-free or regular.
  3. Ask the questions pertaining to the taste, and whether the 2 items from the same category differ or are similar in taste, and if they differ, what differences do they taste?
  4. Record your observations and collate them.

RESULT

While artificial sweeteners may guarantee no or low calories, what they do not state is the effect they have on the body after regular and prolonged consumption. Many artificial sweeteners contain chemicals which trick the body into believing that it is getting the real stuff. And when this happens the body releases some sugar-digesting enzymes to digest the ‘sugar’ it has got.
