The Lying Princess

Once, a princess always told lies. The king wanted to mend his daughter’s ways. He declared that whosoever could make her speak the truth could marry his daughter and have half of his kingdom. Many young men tried their luck but failed. One day, three brothers tried their luck. The elder brothers failed. Then the younger brother came forward. He spoke of an incident where he claimed to have seen the queen beating the king which made figs fall out of his hair. The princess was enraged at hearing this. She shouted in anger, “My father never grew figs on his head.” The man smiled, for the princess had spoken the truth. He thus won both the princess’s hand and half of the kingdom.
