The King of Sharks

Once, the king of sharks fell in love with a girl. He transformed himself into a man and married her. Soon they had a son. The child had the mark of a shark’s mouth on his back. The king put a feathered cape about his shoulders and returned to his kingdom. As the boy grew old, he started eating fish. He would ask the fishermen where they were going to fish and reach that place and eat up all the fish. The fishermen soon noticed that they were catching fewer and fewer fish. The people were growing hungry. The village chief said, “A demon is catching all our fish. We have to catch him.” One day, the boy’s cape fell from his shoulders and people saw the shark’s mouth upon his back. They chased the boy but he slipped into a pool. The boy had taken the form of a shark and had swum out to join his father into the sea.
