During the annual feast held in the jungle, the seat of honour was reserved for the eldest animal. However, this year a severe argument began as to who is the eldest. The deer said, “I am the eldest for I created the sun and the moon.” The fox interrupted, “But I made the ladder which you used to climb up to the sky. So I am the eldest here.” Now an old toad asked, “Are you talking about the ladder which was used to create the sun and moon?” “Yes, yes,” said the fox excitedly. “I remember my great grandchild, who is no more,” said the toad wiping his tears, “telling me that he had planted the tree which was used to make the ladder.” Hearing the toad’s story, no other animal complained and the seat of honour was given to him.
