The Cat and the Crow

Once upon a time, a crow and a cat were great friends and they lived together. One day, a leopard came very close towards them on the sly. The crow quickly flew higher to escape.

The cat was sad and recollected the saying; a friend should come to the aid in times of distress. The crow agreed and saw a shepherd with dogs nearby. The crow flew near them and started irritating them so much that the dogs wanted to chase and catch the crow. Slowly, the crow drew the dogs by teasing them and flying high and low, near the leopard.

When the dogs saw the leopard, they all ran away. The leopard then thought if he should eat the cat that the crow, very craftily, tried to save by bringing the pack of dogs.

Thereafter, a similar story was narrated to the King, of cats in ancient Egypt where cats were used to kill vermin and snakes. They had cat-faced goddesses and mummified cats. ‘Ikhwan Al-Safa’ is the word attributed for perfection in friendship.
