Sampson and Matthew

Sampson and Matthew were good friends. Sampson admired Matthew because he thought Matthew was smart and bold. Sampson also feared Matthew because he was unpredictable. Sampson admired his friend Matthew a lot but Matthew did not give Sampson any importance. Matthew was very smart and he knew how to add big numbers, unlike any other boy in the class. So Sampson often kept quiet whenever Matthew spoke. One afternoon, as both the boys were walking back from school, Matthew saw a huge puddle. As Matthew stopped there, Sampson became suspicious. “If I jump gently in the centre of the puddle, dirty water will not splash on me,” said Matthew. Before Sampson could stop him, Matthew jumped into the puddle. As it turned out, the puddle was deep and even a soft splash covered Matthew in dirt. Sampson realised that being smart also means being careful. After all, we cannot know everything.
