It was a cold night in winter. Jane was sleeping in her room. Suddenly, a traveller knocked at Jane’s door. The traveller looked old, tired and sick. She allowed the traveller to come in. She looked after the traveller and nursed him. The traveller was about to die. On his death bed, he gave Jane a pair of red shoes and said, “They will keep you safe, my child.” Jane did not believe him but accepted the gift anyway. It was winter and Jane was poor. So, she decided to wear the red shoes. One night, Jane opened the door and saw a ferocious tiger sitting outside. Before she knew what was happening, brightly shining rays came out of the red shoes, straight at the tiger. The tiger was scared. It ran off at once, and never came back. Now Jane understood the value of the gift, the traveller gave.
