When the messenger informed Yayati that Ram would soon reach his kingdom for a war with him, he was shocked! He and his whole family–his wife Yashodhara and their children–were great devotees of Ram. So, they could not believe that Ram himself would declare war on them. ‘What wrong have I done to incite Ram’s wrath?’ Yayati wondered. He thought of meeting Ram and begging for his forgiveness. He was certain that Ram would pardon him. As Yayati was preparing for his journey to Ayodhya, sage Narad arrived at his kingdom. Yayati told him that he was going to meet Ram to avoid a war. Narad advised him not to visit Ram, as he was always true to his word. “Ram knows that you are innocent, but he has promised his guru to do whatever he commands. So, it is better you don’t meet him now. He will kill you,” Narad said.
