Mayureshwar Kills Sindhu

Soon, Ganesha attacked Sindhu’s Gandali Nagari and killed his two sons, Dharm and Adharm. Sindhu fled the battlefield after facing defeat at Ganesha’s hands. Sindhu’s father asked him to surrender before Ganesha and release the gods, but he did not pay any heed to this advice and continued the battle. Ganesha then attacked Sindhu with a parashu (hatcher) and the nectar was detached from his navel. Thus, he was killed. During the battle, Ganesha was atop a peacock, so he got the name ‘Mayureshwar’. This form of Ganesha has a white complexion and six arms and is mounted on a peacock. Brahma entreated Ganesha to live amongst his devotees on earth, in a place called Moregaon. Ganesha agreed. Brahma then created a statue of clay, sand and precious stones, and established it at Moregaon. Ganesha announced that whoever lived or worshipped there, would always be safe from all danger.
