The ladder snake is non-venomous growing to an average length of 120 to 160 cm. Adults are yellow to brown with two dark longitudinal stripes running down their entire length. It inhabits hot and dry areas and is found in scrub covers, vineyards, hedges and dry stone walls. Their carnivorous diet consists of mice, rabbits, spiders, lizards, insects and birds.
