Javan Trogon

The Alpalharpactes reinwardtii (scientific name) or Javan trogon is found only in the tropical moist montane forests, in Western Java, Indonesia. 13.3 inches in length, this bird has striking green and yellow plumage. The upperparts are in varying shades of green, excepting the blue tail. And the underparts are bright yellow, with a large green band on the chest. The beak is red and the area around the eye is bare and blue in colour. Its diet is comprised of fruits and invertebrates, which it catches by swooping down. A clutch comprising of 1-2 eggs is laid in nests made in old holes or cavities. Incubation is carried out by both the parents for over 2 weeks. Its IUCN listing is ENDANGERED.
