The Myrmotherula snowi (scientific name) or Alagoas antwren is endemic to the moist tropical lowland forests of Brazil. A little over 3.5 inches in length, this tiny bird has entirely grey plumage with paler underparts and a small black patch on its throat. The female, on the other hand, is yellow-brownish on the upperparts, and has yellow-brownish underparts. Their diet consists mostly of arthropods and insects including beetles, spiders, ants, cockroaches, etc. They tend to forage a few metre above the forest floor. Not much is known about the breeding pattern of the Alagoas antwren, except that they breed in February. Young chicks are seen by May, and they move in family groups. Due to habitat loss, its IUCN listing is CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
