IV. The Kishkindha Episode

Towards Mount Rishyamooka

Rama and Lakshmana were heading towards their destination, when they saw Mount Rishyamooka from some distance. They started walking faster. They saw a Brahmana approaching. They bowed to him. The Brahmana asked them who they were and why they were there. Rama introduced himself and Lakshmana. Rama said, “O Revered Brahmana! My wife, Seeta, has been abducted by the evil-minded Ravana. We have come here in search of her. We are going to meet Sugreeva, the monkey-king.”
The Brahmana’s eyes welled up. Rama and Lakshmana were surprised. They asked him the reason for being unhappy. Then the Brahmana assumed his real form and introduced himself, “Lord! I am Hanuman, son of Kesari. Sugreeva, the monkey-king, has sent me to find out who you are and why you have come over here. Have mercy on me. I am your slave.”

Rama was very much pleased at Hanuman’s righteous conduct and expressed his desire to know about his parents and birthplace. Hanuman then told him about himself in detail.
