The Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus (scientific name) or hyacinth macaw is native to 3 regions in South America. The hyacinth macaw is the largest parrot by length, measuring up to 3.3 feet in height. Its feathers are entirely blue, with a touch of bright yellow near its beak and around the eyes. They have extremely strong beaks and dry scaly tongues which have bones inside, to help them eat nuts and seeds. Their diet is comprised mainly of nuts from acuri and bocaiuva palms. Nests are constructed in the cavities of old trees, and filled with wood chips. A clutch-size is of 1-2 eggs, incubated for a month. While the female incubates the eggs, the male takes care of its mate. Its IUCN listing is VULNERABLE.
