The thorny tree frog is a newly discovered species. It is yellow with a pink belly and gold speckled eyes. The back of the male has thorny projections giving it its common name. They prefer to live in wet and cold steep mountains. The eggs are laid inside water-logged tree holes protecting the tadpoles from predators.
