Fold Mountains

Fold Mountains are the most common type of mountains in the world. They are formed where two or more Earth’s tectonic plates are pushed together. At the region where the collision takes place, the boundaries of the plates are compressed together moving the rocks and debris outwards giving rise to outcropped landform on the surface of the Earth–the mountain. These mountains are rocky and their formation is often associated with continental crust. The process by which these mountains are formed is called Orogency. Orogenic events are very slow and take millions of years. The Appalachian Mountain of the valley-and-ridge region of eastern United States, and the Alps of Europe are some of the major examples of Fold Mountains.
