Door to hell is a 69-metre wide and 39-metre deep burning natural gas field, which has been burning for 5 decades. It is located in Darvaza, desert of north Turkmenistan. This area housed a substantial oil field. A drilling rig was set up to store the gas. However, the ground beneath the drilling rig soon collapsed and poisonous methane gas started releasing. Scientists tried to burn off the gas but the crater is still ablaze.
