Communication Gap

Once, a king sent a message to the neighbouring king. The message read: “Send me a blue diamond as large as a pigeon’s egg or else….” The king wrote back: “We don’t have such a diamond and if we had….” The first king got angry on reading this and declared war on his neighbour. A king heard about this and decided to solve the dispute peacefully. He arranged a meeting between the two rulers. The first king said to the other, “What did your message mean?” The second king replied, “I meant a blue diamond as large as a pigeon’s egg or else…some other diamond. But what did you mean by your message?” The first king replied, “What I wanted to say was that we would have gladly given it to you if we had such a diamond.” Both the kings were greatly embarrassed at the misunderstanding.
