The Sula nebouxii (scientific name) or blue-footed booby is a seabird, which is found in tropical climates, especially the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador. 25-36 inches in length, this bird has a white throat, and chest and belly. The head and upper neck are speckled brown and white in colour, and the plumage on the upperparts and wings is dark brown-black. The beak is longish and black, and the feet are lovely sky blue in colour. Its diet is comprised mainly of flying fish, squids, sardines, etc. They are colonial nesters, and a clutch has 1-3 eggs which are incubated anywhere from 4-5 weeks. It gets its name from the word ‘Bobo’ meaning stupid. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
