The moist and shiny-skinned salamanders can be found in rocky and forested areas under logs and other debris. They occur as striped and unstriped morphs. The striped variant has a red stripe down its back while the unstriped variant is grey and without the red stripe. The belly is white or yellowish and mottled in grey. They prey upon insects.
