A week before Christmas, Gabby was on her way to her grandmother’s cabin in the mountains. It had been snowing lightly all week. By the time she reached the foothills, the snow was falling heavily, and she had to drive very carefully. Gabby was just half an hour away from grandmother’s house, when she heard an ominous rumble. The entire face of the snow-capped mountain above seemed to crumple and shudder. It was an avalanche! As the snow moved faster and faster down the mountain, Gabby knew she had mere moments to save herself. Gabby drove as fast as possible to cross the stretch of road that she knew came right in the path of the avalanche. For a moment it seemed as if it had not been enough–surely she would be buried under the avalanche! But with a final burst of speed, Gabby reached safety. She had never been so relieved in her life!
