The genus atelopus is known for brightly coloured frogs. Vivid fluorescent loop patterns adorn their dark bodies which are a visual treat. In fact, these same colours warn their predators of their skin toxin. These toads are known to enter water only during the breeding season. The diet of these lethargic and diurnal creatures mainly consists of small arthropods.
