SMS or Short Messaging Service is a type of communication used in mobile phones. SMSs are commonly called ‘text messages’. With SMS, someone can send text to another person. The text message was born in the UK, in 1992. The first SMS was sent by a 22-year-old test engineer, Neil Papworth of Sema Group (Mavenir Systems) using a personal computer to Richard Jarvis of Vodafone using an Orbitel 901 handset. The text of the message was “Merry Christmas”.
