Where is the Ozone Layer?

The Earth is wrapped in a blanket of air called the ‘atmosphere’, which is made up of several layers. About 19-30 kilometres above the Earth is a layer of gas called Ozone, which is a form of oxygen. The Ozone Layer is known as the Troposphere. The troposphere extends up to the stratosphere layer. The Ozone Layer is very important because it stops the sun’s ‘ultra-violet rays’ getting through to the Earth. Too much UV rays can cause skin cancer and also harms plants and animals. In 1985, scientists found a hole in the Ozone Layer over Antarctica.
