The warty newt is aptly named due to its warty, dark skin that has black spots. Their bellies are, however, orange with dark spots. They live under leaf litter in wooded areas. They come out in the night in search of worms, insects and tadpoles. Males develop zig-zag crests on their backs while breeding. They live for 25 long years.
