Tom enjoyed his job at the circus and all the folk there loved him. Only Theo, the clown, did not like him at all. One day, Tom was helping with the horses. Evan, the horse trainer, came and started riding the stallion. Almost immediately, the horse reared up and almost threw Evan down! “Take off his saddle, Tom,” said Evan. At once, they discovered what had made the horse rear. Hidden beneath the saddle were two sharp, prickly burrs. When Evan sat in the saddle, they had pricked the horse, causing him to jump! Evan was furious and said, “Who would do such a thing?” Theo smiled sneakily and said, “Wasn’t Tom taking care of the horse?” However, Evan just smiled and said, “Theo, if Tom did this to the horse, then why do you have a burr sticking to your shirt?” Theo went red with embarrassment. He left the circus and was never heard of again.
