Scientific name : Ambystoma tigrinum
Family : Ambystomatidae
Native to : North America
Interesting fact : The tiger salamander can re-grow its limbs if they are lost or damaged.
Conservation status : Least Concern
The tiger salamander has yellow stripes on a dark body resembling a tiger’s stripes. You can rarely see them as they live inside burrows and come out only to breed in ponds, lakes and slow-moving streams. They feed on insects, worms and occasionally small frogs or baby mice. Some of the eggs of the salamander hatch into cannibalistic larvae that eat one another.
