Do you know that different parts of the same fruit taste different?
Things Required:
An orange (preferably navel)
A knife
Directions:
Peel the orange. Cut one slice across the stem end and then one across the blossom end. Taste them.
This Is What Happens:
The slice at the blossom end is sweeter.
Science Behind It:
The blossom end develops more sugar because it is more exposed to the sun. For the same reason, fruits grown in the temperate zone are only 10 to 15 per cent sugar while those from the tropics, such as bananas, figs and dates, range from 20 to 60 per cent sugar.
