Ki-wu said to the stranger, “We thought we were doing you a favour. If you are blind and could not see the treasure, there’s no one but yourself to blame. Come, Pao-shu; let us go back and have a look at the snake that is supposedly hiding in a chunk of gold.” Laughing and having fun, the two friends left the stranger and went out to look for the nugget. They started walking and quickly crossed the remaining path. Their eyes were fixed on the ground.
When they reached the place where they had left the treasure, they were shocked. They saw neither the lump of gold nor the monster snake described by the stranger. Instead, they saw two beautiful golden nuggets, each larger than the one they had seen earlier. Each friend picked up one of the nuggets and handed it happily to his companion.
