The Selfish Mouse

The Selfish Mouse

Once, there were Nia, the mouse and Lia, the buffalo. They were fast friends. The buffalo was a loyal friend, but Nia was an ungracious mouse. One day Nia was collecting the beans. On the other hand, Lia was chewing away all the grass. Nia immediately asked the buffalo to leave. Then Lia refused; the mouse hopped onto him and bit his ears. Unable to bear the pain, the buffalo fell unconscious. A fox, which happened to pass by, saw the mouse and the unconscious buffalo.

He smacked his lips and thought, ‘There’s not only a dead buffalo but also a mouse to eat!’ He quickly approached the mouse and kindly asked if he could eat the buffalo. The mouse readily agreed. “But my wife will be hungry too. I will need some more meat,” said the greedy fox. “Where do I get more meat for you?” asked the mouse. “I can eat you!” said the fox and he pounced on the mouse.
