The Prince and the Ogress

Once upon a time, there was a king whose son was very fond of hunting. The King allowed him to go hunting, but he was very worried whenever he went into the forest.
Therefore, he ordered his grand Vazir to go with him and never lose sight of him. So, the grand Vazir was always with the prince when he hunted.
One day, however, the prince found a stag and chased it deep into the forest. The Vazir could not follow the prince. The stag was soon lost in the forest. The prince drew his horse to a halt and looked back. He had been sure the Vazir was following him as usual, but there was no sign of him!
The prince decided to return but he got lost and wandered around, thoroughly confused.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of someone weeping and, searching for the source of the sound, he saw a beautiful lady sitting on a boulder beside the forest path, weeping bitterly.
The prince being kind-hearted, he got off his horse and asked her why she was crying.

“I am the daughter of an Indian King, sir,” said the lady, “I happened to doze off as I was riding and my horse threw me and bolted!”
The prince put her on his horse and took her to her home. On the way, they passed a broken-down house. The princess wished to stop there, so the prince helped her down.
As he waited for her, he heard her voice from a window, saying, “Look what I have brought for you, my children! There’s a healthy youth outside. We can roast and eat him, so none of us will be hungry!”

The prince was terrified. She was not a princess. She was an ogress who would eat him! He promptly got onto his horse and began to ride away.
The princess came out and asked him to stay. But her spell was broken.
“I have to go home,” said the prince.
The princess told him the path and the prince rode away safely. When he reached home, he told the King his adventures. The King was angry with the Vazir for leaving his son and punished him severely.
