Once, there were many tall trees in the forest. But there was a small maple tree among all the tall trees. The maple tree always felt he was unlucky. He thought, ‘I am so small that no one cares for me.’ The birds made their nest on nearby trees, but not on the maple tree. The maple tree felt sad and complained that the birds did not like him because his branches were small. He felt jealous of the tall trees when they swayed and danced with the wind. The wise old peepal tree explained to him, “Dear maple! Count your blessings, my son. It’s not a curse to be small!” One day, a man with a machine came and started cutting the big strong trees. But the maple tree was left because he was not tall. That day onwards, the maple thanked his creator for making him small.
