Once, the Moon called on her friend, the spider, and said, “The animals of the Earth are scared. Please tell them that they need not be afraid of dying.” The spider slowly made his way to the Earth. He met a hare on the way who said, “O spider! You are too slow. Tell me the Moon’s message and I’ll take it to the Earth faster.” The spider started, “The Moon wants the animals of the Earth to know that they will all die.” The hare did not wait to hear the rest and said, “All right! I have to tell the animals of the Earth that they will all die.” He ran towards the Earth. The spider told the Moon what had happened. The Moon was very angry with the hare for giving the wrong message. When the hare came back, the Moon hit him on the nose! That is why, to this day, the hare has a split lip.
