The Great Banyan Tree

The Great Banyan Tree is located in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Gardens, near Kolkata, in India. The Botanical Gardens are beautiful in their own right, but they are world-famous for a single tree ‘The Great Banyan Tree’. The Tree which is over 250 years old. And while its age is truly incredible, what is most astounding is the 14,500 sq.m of land that it occupies. With 2,800 aerial roots, this tree gives anyone who sees it, the illusion of being a forest, when, in fact, it is a single tree.
