Common name : Crab spider
Scientific name : Sidymella sp.
Family : Thomisidae
Native to : New Zealand, Australia and South America
Interesting fact : These spiders resemble small crabs; hence, the name ‘crab spider’.
With a total body length of 4-12 mm, this small spider has a squarish backside. Due to their colouring they are well camouflaged in nature. Active both during the day and at night, it does not build a web or nest, but rather hangs from draglines and lies in wait for its prey. Its diet is comprised mostly of other insects.
