Interesting fact : Unlike other butterflies, the spicebush swallowtail continues to flutter its wings even when it is feeding.
A large butterfly, the wingspan of the spicebush swallowtail ranges from 3-4 inches. The butterfly is brownish colour with a half moon of blue or green colour on the hind wings. Unlike most other butterflies, the spicebush swallowtail flies lower to the ground and does not fly high. They can be found in deciduous forests and wooded swamp areas. Females lay 1-2 eggs at a time on the host plant. Upon hatching, the larvae feed on the leaves of the host plant.
