The Spelopelia chinensis (scientific name) or spotted dove is a long-tailed resident breeder of forests, gardens and urban areas of India and South-East Asia, though it has been introduced to different parts of the world. 11-12.8 inches in length, the spotted dove has rosy-buff coloured under parts, and a greyish head and belly. It has a spotted half collar on its back and neck. The back has brown feathers with spots. Wings are dark brown with grey edges. Their diet is comprised of seeds, fruits and grains which they look for on the ground. Found in pairs or small groups,both the male and the female build the nest, in which 2 eggs are laid, and incubated for 12-13 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
