Sichuan Jay

The Perisoreus internigrans (scientific name) or sichuan jay is found in tropical moist forests in China. It is a medium-sized bird with a head that’s dark black and the throat, neck and upper body are almost silver-grey in colour. The wing coverts and tail coverts are a darker grey. The beak is whitish-yellow, while the feet are black-grey. While their diet is not exactly known, the Sichuan Jay stores its food. It works the food in its mouth and form its into a bolus, which it stores in bark crevices for later use. Since they are rare, not much is known about the breeding habits either. They are territorial and live in the same place throughout the year. Its IUCN listing is VULNERABLE.
