Semsi Mountain

Once, there lived two brothers Jax and Max. Jax was poor but kind-hearted, while Max was rich and greedy.

One day, Jax went to the forest to collect firewood. Wandering deep inside, he came across a huge mountain that was almost completely hidden by huge trees. Jax stood and stared at it in amazement. The very next moment, he saw twelve evil-looking robbers walking towards the mountain. Jax hid and watched them.

They stood in front of the mountain and shouted, “Semsi Mountain! Semsi Mountain, open up!”

Immediately, the mountain opened up from the middle and the men went inside. Jax waited and watched. A little while later, the robbers came out and shouted, “Semsi Mountain! Semsi Mountain, close up!” As ordered, the mountain closed. Nobody could have guessed looking at it afterwards that the mountain could open.

Once the robbers had gone away; Jax went up to the mountain and repeated the same words. Immediately, the mountain opened up and Jax went inside.

He was amazed to see gold, silver, jewels and all kinds of precious stones inside. Jax was tempted to take plenty of gold with him, but he was wise and took only enough gold to fill his pockets. When he came out, he shouted, “Semsi Mountain! Semsi Mountain, close up!” and the mountain closed.

Jax used the gold to make life more comfortable for his family. There was plenty of food for everyone and the house was bigger now. With the extra money Jax was also able to help the needy. Whenever his money was finished, he would go to the mountain and get some more gold. He never took more than what was needed for feeding the family and helping the poor.

Max was very jealous of all the changes in his brother’s house. He was curious to know where his brother was getting all the money from. One day, he decided to follow Jax and he discovered his secret. The next day, Max took his carriage to the mountain and repeated the words. He entered the mountain and was amazed at what he saw inside. As greedy Max was busy filling up his sacks, the robbers came back. They were furious and made him a prisoner and never let him go. Thus, the rich brother had to suffer due to his greed. Meanwhile, the poor brother lived happily ever after.
