Rhododendron is either evergreen or deciduous, and found mainly in Asia. It also grows on the slopes of the Alps, so it is also called Alpine rose. It has broad, dark green leaves, with a silvery, fawn or brown hairy coating beneath. It blooms in late spring to early summer. Flower colours include pink, red, violet, yellow, and white, depending on species and variety. Its leaves are used shortly before blooming. The plant is generally considered to be anti-rheumatic, diuretic and diaphoretic. The flowers are used to make beverages like squashes and syrups.
