Red-throated Bee-eater

The Merops bullocki (scientific name) or red-throated bee-eater is endemic to Africa. It has a vast range, from Burkina Faso and Chad, to Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda amongst other countries. A small-sized bird with a height of only 9 inches, this bird is extremely colourful with a distinctive red throat. It has a black beak, green forehead with a brown lower head and under parts. The back feathers are a bright green. The tail feathers are a mix of brown and green, and its lower belly is blue. Their diet consists of winged insects which are in flight. An average clutch has 2-3 eggs incubated for 20 days by either adult. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
