Rainbow Mountains

Rainbow-Mountains

The Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park or the Rainbow Mountains are located in Gansu, China. The Rainbow Mountains are a beautiful range of colourful mountains. Due to the rich density of minerals and rocks that are packed in layers throughout the land, the mountains are vividly striated into a layer cake of colours ranging from red to magenta, maroon and lemon-coloured stones. This unique colouration of the land is a result of different types of rocks depositing on top of one another, until 40-50 million years ago when a gigantic push sent tectonic plates into a collision course with the rest of Eurasia.
