Can plants be grown without seeds? You will say, “No seeds, no plants.” Wrong. See for yourself.
Things Required:
Sand
Carrot tops (ask an adult to cut the tops from several carrots)
Shallow container
Directions:
Fill the container with sand. Thoroughly wet the sand with water. Insert the cut end of the carrot tops in the wet sand. Place in a lighted area. Keep the sand wet for 7 days. Observe the tops of the carrots for changes.
This Is What Happens:
Tiny green stems and leaves begin to grow.
Science Behind It:
The carrot top has the base of the stem and a portion of the root on it. All the necessary parts for a productive plant are present. The carrot portion is the root and contains the food reserve for the plant. Supplying the plant with water allows the stem to grow and produce leaves.
