Capsicum or bell pepper is a herbaceous perennial plant. Plants of this species grow in shrubby mounds. The flowers are white or yellow and the leaves are green and lance-shaped to oval medium. The flowers give way to edible peppers, ranging from extremely hot chilli peppers to sweet bell peppers. Peppers are used fresh, cooked, or dried in an enormous variety of dishes characteristic of different regional cuisines. They are high in vitamins A and C. Some varieties have been developed to use as ornamentals.
