The Leiothrix lutea (scientific name) or red-billed leiothrix or pekin robin is native to the forests of the Indian sub-continent. This bird is just 6 inches in length. It is olive-green in colour, with orange shading on its chest and a yellow throat. It has a red beak and wingtip feathers are a bright mix of yellow, orange, red and black. The forked tail is olive-brown in colour. The female has a red patch on its wings and is paler than the male. Their diet is comprised of both plant and animal matter. During breeding season (April to September), the male sings a long complicated song to attract the female. The average clutch has 3 eggs which are incubated for 12 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
